Blogging Tips: Change Is A Good Thing!

my style

Hello guys, its been a minute since I’ve done any blogging tips. Early Sunday mornings before my kids wake up, is a great time for me to reflect back on my life and get things done before my teens get up and start asking me to do a million things. Over a week or so now, I’ve noticed that a lot of bloggers are letting their sites go and I can definitely see why! Its REALLY time consuming, it gets frustrating, you’re not getting what you want out of it and more. I hear you all, trust me I do! It has affected me as well. Luckily, I have been blessed and smart enough to know not put all my eggs in one basket. Let me explain more…

Yes, blogging has become really popular within the last last 9 years and I’ve been at it for over 8yrs. I have been to all sorts of blogging conferences, meet ups, networking events and more but now after being in this field for a long time, all of that doesn’t really mean anything to me anymore. The fun, excitement, networking and all that other stuff has gotten old. When I used to go to these expensive blogger conferences, I would sit there and think to myself, “well, why didn’t they say this or girl, I heard that a million times and that does not work”.

They don’t really want me to be on a panel because I would keep it all at the way 100 and some couldn’t handle the realism of what I would say lol! Let’s face it, if you are NOT Caucasian or extremely wealthy, coming into the gate, you will have to work your butt off for whatever it is you are trying to achieve in this blogosphere world! Its more Caucasians online, accessible to computers with spending power too. Its just the way it is, you will learn to suck it up and deal with it. Trust me, I know life isn’t fair! In these blogging streets, you will quickly learn this fast.

I started my blog many years ago and with the help of reality tv, it really boosted my numbers because of all the content and pictures that I had but now even that has become over saturated just like blogging. There are over 6 million blogs out there and you can take your pick on which ones you visit daily. When I first started, it wasn’t that many really good urban ones. Now, everyone has a blog.

I get tons of pitches, questions, can you do this, can you come out to that and to be honest, now I am VERY selective as to what I post and attend. Most of the invites to these events are a complete waste of my time, when I could be home with my family and saving on gas, outfit, time, commute, paying a photographer or shooting myself, editing pics, uploading, writing and the whole nine! Now, I ask more questions, who is going to be there etc. I have to sit and think if its worth it, besides this is my full time gig.

I recently got an email from some random person asking me what happened to my site and that it has “changed” so much. I think the person wanted me to be messier and talk about people which I don’t really remember doing lol. Yes, I have the popular blog posts: Pinktastic, Straddlin The Fence, Chile Bye plus TWT TEA but I never meant for my site to be a gossip site at all because that’s just not me plus its draining.

Yes, I voice my opinion and if someone ticked me off, you would read about it but Talking With Tami was never meant to be a gossip site! When Talking With Tami was birthed back in 2006 and I had my talk show, it was about inspiring, encouraging and motivating others plus highlighting women in business. Then that transitioned over to my blog a couple of years later. I have always been passionate about helping women and showing people that if I can do it, you can too! The premise has always been that and especially inspiring women because so many of us need it. Be it with beauty & fashion tips, launching businesses, interviews, events etc…

True, my site has changed over the years and thats a good thing to me. That means that I have grown spiritually and mentally. I also had to look at what worked for me at the end of the day too. All that gossip do not equal up to dollars either. What did allow my site to generate revenue was when I cleaned it up a bit and started collaborating with businesses, working with brands and getting sponsored posts. Yep, you may think that is “selling out” but honey this site would have been shut down many moons ago, if I didn’t change it up a bit! Thats why you see more fashion than anything else. Thats what keeps my site running and paying the bills because it is NOT free to run this blog! If you look at a lot of urban gossip sites, you NEVER see them collaborate or work with brands either(atleast not like I do).

So, I apologize if you thought that you would read messy stories on here, its just not that kind of site but there are PLENTY of them out there. I like to keep it light, give you the tea here and there but I am more interested in helping others that may feel down on themselves like I once did too. People from all walks of life can come here for a breathe of fresh air, smile, see pretty pics, get motivated, inspired and more. Till next time…xoxo

  1. Thanks for the tip Tami! I started blogging in 2008 and yes it’s hard but if you love what you do and know what your readers like it helps you to continue moving forward with it.

  2. now I am VERY selective as to what I post

That’s what I love about this blog. I appreciate you and your candidness.

  3. Thanks for the tips Tami. I recently started a blog since becoming a full-time mother. You are by far my favorite blogger because I can relate to you through your content and a lot of the fashion items you post are not out of reach for the average person.

Keep inspiring because you certainly have inspired me.
