It was refreshing to see a fashion show with all African American models at Dsquared² Fall 2013 fashion show! I haven’t seen this done in quite awhile and the men looked really nice on the runway! Congrats to twin designers Dean and Dan Caten for showing they too can be diverse. I go to fashion shows all the time and it bothers me to see an ALL caucasian cast of models at fashion shows back to back all day long when I’m at fashion week. I always sit there wondering is this done on purpose? Did the other minority models call in sick? Did anyone else even audition for these shows?
A report came out recently where a reporter asked the very same questions that I was thinking and she stated that some designers feel that African Americans don’t spend money on designer clothes, we don’t have the income, we are not their target audience and so on. I was shocked by their answers. So that is why they don’t care to put black models in their shows.I thought we liked nice things as well, and all of my friends and celebrities I know where designer pieces. Maybe according to them, its only a small few, not sure. Perhaps they have the numbers to prove it. Anyway I’m ranting, check out some cool looks from the runway! The theme was 1940′s jazz. xoxo
