My Interview With OPI #AmplifyMelanatedVoices

Hey guys, so excited today! I was asked by the team over at OPI if they would like for me to share my opinion and insight into how I continue to be an industry leader today. They have a campaign they are doing called, #AmplifyMelanatedVoices As a previous salon owner and nail technician for over ten years, I was honored that they even thought of me! I have been using OPI polish since I can remember so this was very touching to me! Check out what I had to say inside, thanks so much for the team for thinking of me!

As we continue to #AmplifyMelanatedVoices, we connected with award-winning content creator, Tami Reed @talkingwithtami on Instagram. She shared challenges while growing her business and gave insight into how she continues to be an industry leader today. From business advice to leading meaningful discussions, Tami gives us her perspective on diversity and inclusion in today’s industry.

OPI: As one of our industry leaders, what challenges have you faced getting to where you are now and what do you think the opportunities are for change?

TR: Some of my challenges have been growing my business as Black CEO and getting the same compensation as my white female counterparts when I have been able to offer a greater ROI for businesses. My traffic is higher in many cases, more social media engagement.

OPI: What strengths do you feel the nail industry has in terms of diversity and inclusion?

TR: Partnerships with Black influencers for product launches, sponsoring receptions, doing a naming challenge, etc.

OPI: What role do you think YOU can play in opening doors for others?

TR: Some may not know this, but a fun fact about me is that I was a licensed nail technician and nail salon owner for 10 years. So with that being said, I am often called on for mentoring, which I oblige. Also, I have been coaching and hosting social media/Influencer masterclasses for over 15 years.
