My Review: Disney Mary Poppins Returns

I was very excited to hear that Disney Mary Poppins Returns was nominated for four Golden Globes! It made me happy because I was at the premiere and got to see all the actors on the red carpet and interview them just a few weeks ago in Los Angeles! Emily Blunt was nominated for Best Actress and Lin-Manuel Miranda for Best Actor! I’m so happy for them and today I share with you my review of the movie but don’t worry, there are no spoilers lol. I think this is a great movie to take your entire family to go see during the holidays, such a feel good movie! See what I thought of it inside and don’t forget it flys into theaters December 19th!

Storyline: Tells the story of Mary Poppins returning to the new generation of Banks. Set during the great depression, Mary Poppins Returns picks up after the legendary original’s. It’s a fun musical that remixes live-action with animation. Mary Poppins shows them unconditional love after a loss. I loved the storyline and the characters, all very joyful and loving. Its easy for kids and young adults to follow along, great to bring the whole family to see.

Dick Van Dyke: Who doesn’t love this actor who was in the original movie! He still got it at 92 years old and puts a smile on everyone’s face when he makes an appearance in the film. He dances then gives a great monologue that is very heart warming.

Sidenote: I actually sat next to him in the theater at the premiere and he said hello and shook my hand! Lovely man, wish him the best!

Costumes: You know I’m all about the costumes in movies and Award-Winning Costume Designer Sandy Powell did a superb job of making these colorful ones in Mary Poppins. In one scene, all the cast outfits were hand painted to bring them into the animated world. Everything was made from scratch. Mary Poppins looks were my all-time favorite, they were lean and sophisticated, it gave a true vintage feel.

Dance Sequences: I loved the dancers and all they did! Since it’s a musical as well, it was fun to sing along and dance in my seat. I loved all the dance numbers and Actor Lin-Manuel Miranda, who plays Jack dances so gracefully throughout the film!
