Pink Spotlight: House of Couture

Fashion boutiques are popping up all over the place now via the internet and especially here in Atlanta. I would like to think that we have plenty of fabulous shopping places here in town but wanted the chance to have you meet one lady in particular that is doing a lot of creative things with her boutique called, House of Couture! Her name is April McRae who’s a professional speech pathologist by day but turns into a total fashionista at night! Come inside to meet her and find out what she has to say about the craze of fashion boutiques, her brand and where her love of fashion started and so much more!

I met with April in a cute lil restaurant in Midtown and when she walked in, I loved her smile and her cute summer outfit! I quickly noticed her footwear which was quite amazing and asked her who made her shoes. They looked very familiar but I could’t remember where I spotted them. She quickly said, “a true fashionista never tells her age or where she shops!” I batted my eyelashes and lashed back and said, “chile are you serious? Those are from Zara, stop playing!” We both giggled and hit it off, she was the cutest! We quickly sit down, order off the menu and go right into the interview. If you live here in Atlanta or plan to visit, check her store out and she has a lot of fun things coming up this year! Let’s start the interview…..

Where are you from and when did the love of fashion begin? What do you want to do more of? I’m from Atlanta, Georgia born and raised! The love for fashion started at a very young age for me. I’ve always played in my mom’s clothing, shopped online and I’ve always kept up with the latest fashions and trends over the years. I would love to do more styling as well. I’ve styled runway shows from London Fashion Week, pageants, photo shoots you name it! I really have a passion for it.

Why did you want to open a boutique when Atlanta has so many here? Do you think there is much or any competition at all? I don’t think that we have a lot of great fashion boutiques in Atlanta. Can you name off the top of your head five really good boutiques right now? See, that’s what I thought lol! House of Couture caters to the everyday woman. We really focus on dressing and making women more fashionable. Our price points are great and affordable. We do consultation, we will fulfill your every need, we go over and beyond to find that perfect item for you and we have outstanding customer service.

We don’t think that there is really any competition out here at all, we do our own thing. For all of the other boutiques, I wish them well but we are quite different. I do remember one instance where another boutique owner tried to crash and ruin my event but she failed miserably. I won’t allow and accept that type of behavior, I’m too strong for that!

Do you offer plus size fashions that are not drab? And what can we find when we make a visit to your store? We cater to “all” women and we have great looks for the curvier girl! From edgy, classy, funky pieces and those unique one-of-a-kind looks, we have something for everyone!

I want you to do well with your boutique but why aren’t you really social media savvy, especially since your selling something? I know, I’m working on that but I am also in school getting my Doctorate, working full time as a speech pathologist and I try to have my interns update for me but I will admit that I’m not really into social media. I am working on that, trust me and I am very aware that you need to have that to succeed with this type of business.

What’s next for your brand and House of Couture? We have some great things lined up for the year! Since traveling to London for Fashion Week and studying it for years, we plan on having some great shows, pop up events and just getting the word out about our boutique and brand. It’s going to be great and I can’t wait for what’s in store!
