Pinky Review: Marvel Studios ‘Black Widow’ Starring Scarlett Johansson

Marvel’s Black Widow is hitting theaters tomorrow, as well as Disney+ with Premium Access on Friday July 9th. I got a chance to see an advance screening and it was really good, long but good lol! The movie is about Natasha who’s on the run for siding with Captain America and having broken the Sokovia Accords. While in hiding she stumbles upon Dreykov who’s using a brain controlling drug to turn girls into “Widows”. Natasha reunites with her lil sister Yelana to free the Widows and take on the Taskmaster. Yes, it’s suspenseful, full of action and it keeps your interest! Check out more about this movie inside…

Black Widow takes place after Captain America: Civil War and shows what Natasha was doing during this time. The story begins back in 1995, when a young Natasha and her baby sister Yelena are forced to flee Ohio with their “parents” and taken to a camp where other stolen girls are training to become assassins. The opening of this movie gave me the creeps because this type of stuff is happening now, with trafficking young girls…lawd!

Scene Stealer

Newcomer Florence Pugh as Yelena steals all the scenes in Black Widow, hands down! I didn’t know who she was until this film and she does a phenomenal job! From her fight scenes to her one on one conversations, she is really good on camera. She is definitely one to watch!

Sibling Rivalry

Natasha (Scarlett Johansson) and her sister Yelena (Florence Pugh) have many spats during the movie and also funny moments as they also kick ass. Trained assassins do that. The fight scenes were insane and I love that although they grew up to live separate lives, their sisterly bond was undeniable!

 Destination Spots

The movie was shot all over the world! Filming took place from May to October 2019 in Norway, Budapest, Morocco, Pinewood Studios in England and here in Atlanta and Macon Georgia. Its shot so beautifully!

Villain

Taskmaster was the villain in Black Widow, I was a bit complexed that they didn’t really show him that much in the movie, still he was suspenseful n scary to say the least! I thought his armored gear in the movie was sick and that backpack! He first appeared in the final page of Avengers #195 in May 1980.

Funny Character

David Harbour portrays Alexei/The Red Guardian who’s the father of Natasha Romanoff. A former deadly assassin and a former member of the Avengers. He is so funny in the movie and you can’t help but love him and he adds comic relief to the film.

Costumes

The skintight black Russian spy catsuit that we see Natasha Romanoff wear in the film was created by Jany Temime and one of Actress Scarlett Johansson favorite looks to wear. It was sexy and powerful. Scarlett said it was the most comfortable and she adored it.

Overall Thoughts

I loved the movie, there were a few disheartening scenes that I could have done with watching but overall, I give the movie a sold A. I’m telling you now its LONG! But the way it was shot, the storyline that was easy to follow, the stunts and the fun characters in the movie is why I would recommend it! Great for teens or for a date night movie where your significant other won’t be bored lol. My favorite scene in the movie is the discussion between Yelena and Natasha in the kitchen…hilarious!
