Last night singer Rihanna hit up the CFDA to accept her award for Fashion Style Icon for 2014. She wore a jaw-dropping shear and shimmery peek-a-boo custom gown that had the internet on fire and I see why!
Rihanna wore a breathtaking custom gown designed by Adam Selman for the prestigious occasion with over 230,000 Swarovski crystals! I bet that booga was heavy as heck lol! Lots of people that worked on the gown didn’t sleep for hours on end trying to finish the dress. “We started talking about it, and I sketched it shortly after,” said Selman, noting it was a heavily collaborative process. In fact, the matching do-rag was all Rih’s idea. “It brings such a Rihanna feel to the whole thing,” said Selman.
Rihanna finished off the look with a Pink Pologeorgis fur stole, Manolo Blahnik heels, diamond ring and earrings by Paul Morelli and a pink ring from Jacob. I absolutely loved this gown and some called her look tacky and tasteless but I see art. I’m not here to judge but she is a fashion killer and if you’re going to receive this type of an award, you have to bring it and that she did. She’s bold for sure and a risk taker! If I was in her line of business and had the body, in my 20’s, I just may have worn something similar…who knows! Maybe with pasties though lol. What do you think of her designer gown, did you love it or hate it? xoxo
I grew up on a very small island, and I didn’t have a lot of access to fashion. But as far as I could remember, fashion has always been my defense mechanism. Even as a child I remember thinking, ‘She can beat me, but she cannot beat my outfit,’” she said. She also thanked her longtime stylist Mel Ottenberg saying “Mel Ottenberg, thank you, you get me.
