The Real From Home: Adrienne’s Strategic Advice On Starting A Side Business From Home

On Wednesday, May 20, on The Real From Home, each co-host brings Girl Chat from her home, during the current pandemic.

Co-host Adrienne Houghton hands out some strategic advice to viewers who may be thinking of starting a side business, based on her own experience.

And does the cleanliness of your car reflect who you are? Co-host Amanda Seales feels strongly that it does and relates a story that demonstrates this theory!

Also, the hosts give some tips on “productive” arguing and what works for them when there is conflict with their partners.

Then the ladies recall a few times they Hit Reply to viewers’ questions and comments, and take a look back at their interview with actor Larenz Tate from earlier in the season.

Adrienne Drops Some Knowledge On Starting Your Own Business

Adrienne Houghton: Guys, I can’t make this up – I’m literally approving packaging while we’re shooting. I can’t make this stuff up.

Jeannie Mai: Aww, that’s awesome!

Adrienne: But just on the side, I’m just like, OK let me approve this real quick. This is what I feel: I feel it’s important that whatever you do that you be really, really passionate about it. And that there is real planning that goes into starting your own business – how are you going to do it, what is… And I’ve been talking about this recently, because a lot of people while we’re in quarantine are saying, “I can’t wait to get out of this, I can’t wait to do this, I can’t wait to do that.” And we get so excited for the future, but a lot of us don’t prepare for it; we don’t strategically plan for it. And I think it’s so important when you’re wanting to leave your main job, and maybe do what you’re passionate about – it’s important to be strategic about how you’re going to do it – what’s realistic, what’s not realistic. So for me – I was passionate about jewelry and fashion, and there’s so many other things I still want to do, but I think it was important to be strategic about how I went about it. Like, how much do I actually have to invest in this company? Do I have the time to do it? Who is actually going to be fulfilling this? With La Voûte, my bag line, I invested 100%, it’s 100% mine, so it’s 100% of my money that goes into it. Who fulfills it? Me, my mom, Lana, Papa Joe, helps us box, Israel helps to pack. And I had to be realistic about how I was going to do it, when I was going to find the time to do it, and recognized that there were going to be some sleepless days and nights where I just had to do what I had to do in order to launch this and get it off the ground. So I encourage anybody out there that has a passion in their heart – do it, but recognize that while your job may be a nine to five, this is going to be 24 hours of hard labor and work.
