The Stars From ‘Barbershop: The Next Cut’ Talk About Their New Film & More

Barbershop The Next Cut

I really enjoyed my press trip to Los Angeles a few weeks ago, where there I got to chat with a lot of the cast from the new film Barbershop: The Next Cut! As most of you know, the movie is in theaters nationwide today! Make sure you head out to see it, its worth the money and has a slew of powerful messages. Inside check out what some of them had to say about the film, todays issues and so much more!

Ice Cube/Calvin Palmer

On pitching Barbershop: The Next Cut to MGM:

Ice Cube informed us that he didn’t know if MGM would have the stomach for another sequel but when he saw all that was going on in Chicago(gun violence & gangs) plus the campaign for free cuts there, he thought he would take the chance. He said plus his son that he had in the film would be about the same age as of right now. That storyline alone would be a great addition to talk about with all the social media and peer pressure. He also wanted to catch up with the characters 10 years later to see what all the barbers were doing now. So he got all his writers together and got to work. Things got funny and real.

Common/Rashad

On the funny car scene:

Common said he had a lot of fun working on the set and it was such a great bond he created with everyone. With the funny car scene, he completely ad lib that whole scene. He said all fellas can relate to thinking a girl wants him especially when she sends him mixed signals.

Larmorne Morris/Jerrod

On being the butt of the jokes:

Lamorne stated that he didn’t take it too kindly with all the insults in the film but he had to learn the proper timing lol. He really enjoyed being in the movie though.

Anthony Anderson/J.D.

Why its important to own your own business?

Anthony said we need to make a change. We have to stop sitting back and letting others do it for us. Learn to take your own shots and position yourself for power. Own your own and learn to recycle your dollars. Learn to leave something for the next generation. That effects your kids mindset.

Barbershop the next cut

It’s been more than 10 years since our last appointment at Calvin’s Barbershop. Calvin (Ice Cube) and his longtime crew, including Eddie (Cedric the Entertainer), are still there, but the shop has undergone some major changes. Most noticeably, our once male-dominated sanctuary is now co-ed. The ladies bring their own flavor, drama and gossip to the shop challenging the fellas at every turn. Despite the good times and camaraderie within the shop, the surrounding community has taken a turn for the worse, forcing Calvin and our crew to come together to not only save the shop, but their neighborhood.
