Urban Cannibals

For all my vegans and health food fanatics, you will love this post! I have been knowing Doria Roberts and Calavino Donati for a few years now. Chef Donati previously owned another restaurant that I reviewed. We stayed in touch over the years and now these two chicas have opened a new lil quaint spot in East Atlanta called, Urban Cannibals. I asked Co-Owner Doria, how they came up with the name and she explained, “We thought of the name because people feed off of each other, we are a community and its all about working together”. At first I didn’t get the title of the restaurant but after she showed me around and explained everything, the name fit perfect.

Inside the cafe they have a community corner. They have local farmers come out and talk about their produce and people in the area get to sample their goods. Mostly everything used in the restaurant is organic and ingredients are bought by local farmers.

They offer retail items that are organic and some things that aren’t for their customers. The same is with the menu, you can have tofu or chicken. It’s something for everyone. All the tables, shelves and counters are recycled materials.  Doria also told me something I didn’t know. She said if you take 2 tablespoons of honey, it will get rid of our allergies, how cool! I have allergies really bad in the summer time and I’m going to try it. She said, we have locals that bring us honey, so stop by!

Chef Calavino then made me and the kids some great food. Entrees just kept coming and we were too excited to taste everything! We had egg salad, barbecue chicken, sweet potatoes, greens, succotash and Chef Calavino’s famous mac n cheese. I got mad at my kids and begged her to make another side of Mac n Cheese for me personally because my kids gobbled it up! Smh! EVERYTHING she served us taste like you were eating at your grannies house on sunday afternoon! Chef Calavino can throw down, and don’t let her color fool you, she can make some Mac & Cheese!

Pooty always ready to eat lol

Doria is the baker and she had us try her blondie brownies, omg! They were soo good! If you live in Atlanta you have to stop by this cool lil hidden gem, your tummy will thank you! Thanks to Doria & Calavino for the educational dining experience, we had a great time!
