What Does Fashion Mean To You?

In a recent interview, a gentlemen asked me what would I like to be known for, having great style or fashion? I really couldn’t answer him. I then thought about it hard and said, I would like to be known for having great style. Style is a hard thing to accomplish I do know that for sure. I later looked up the term Fashion and this is what it said…

Fashion is a general term for a popular style or practice, especially in clothing, footwear, accessories, makeup, body piercing, or furniture. Fashion refers to a distinctive and often habitual trend in the style in which a person dresses or to prevailing styles in behavior.

I read a lot of fashion blogs and I look at what the editor is wearing in their personal style posts. I will be the first to say that I really only have a few favorite fashion bloggers that nail it each and every time. I do get my life with a lot of the ways that women put their looks together.  Although some looks are not for me, I’m sure they can say the same thing about me. I’ve said in many posts that I am working with champagne taste, on a beer budget over here because I have a family. I mix high and low pieces because it’s seriously very hard to buy designer handbags, shoes and outfits all the time when I’d really rather have a savings account and money inside that designer handbag lol! I see so many women sacrifice so much to impress others that they do not even know with all this designer crap. Although it is pretty to look at but for what? I have learned over the years to just do me, where what I like and keep it moving. My style may not be appeasing to everyone, but I like it and that’s why I wear it. Sometimes I am wearing something a brand sent to me too, that is not particularly my style but I am appreciative for them sending me things to wear.

I’ve seen some horrific comments people leave under blog posts stating, well she should have worn it this way, she looks like a stuffed sausage, that looks cheap, why did she…It breaks my heart but makes me laugh at the same time because most of the people commenting like that have no real style themselves! When did so many people become fashion critics from a computer? Then the funny thing is, half of them are not even bold enough to put their own images out there! Ha, the nerve of them!

I believe in wearing what is comfortable, affordable and fun to wear.  I’m sure your personal style may not be to my liking either but we have to learn to respect others fashion choices. I love wearing fitted dresses because you know why? I appear larger in loose, heavy or very light colored fabrics. My weight fluctuates between a size 12 and 14. I hear or read, oh you gained weight, or you’ve slimmed down all the time. When really I’ve only gained or lost about 5 pounds lol. I don’t wear bodycon dresses because I think I have a banging body, I wear them because they look better on me.  Slacks and jeans, not so much. I think they are confining and uncomfortable and I can’t wait to take them off! I’m also not good with separate pieces and dealing with picking out jackets, blouses and skirts. I’ve tried to mix it up but it’s just not my thing.

All of this is to say, wear what you love and feel great in it! Fashion is a personal choice. You have to embrace and work with what you got! Wear things that compliment your good assets and cover up everything else.  I know my flaws better than anyone else. So learn to love you and what God gave you! Make fashion fun and put your own spin on it! There are NO rules in fashion! Till next time!  xoxo
