Kurt Russell Says The Oscars are a Family Affair

With the Academy Awards approaching, Kurt Russell is looking forward to a special night celebrating family. Russell recently shared that he plans to attend the ceremony alongside longtime partner Goldie Hawn and her daughter, Kate Hudson, who is nominated for Best Actress this year.

According to Russell, the night almost didn’t happen for him due to his busy schedule. At one point, he wasn’t sure he would be able to make it back in time for the ceremony. Fortunately, things worked out. “I didn’t know if I was going to be able to make it back in time for the Academy Awards, but now I am,” he said, adding that the evening should be a lot of fun for the family.

The original plan was for Goldie Hawn to attend as Kate Hudson’s date, while other family members including Oliver Hudson and Erin Bartlett might also join the celebration. However, with everyone’s schedules constantly changing, the final plans are still being sorted out. Russell explained that he has been spending time in London and tends to wait until the last minute before confirming plans. Still, he believes he will end up joining Goldie and Kate for the big night.

Russell said it would be especially meaningful if Hudson were to take home the award. Goldie Hawn was nominated for an Oscar twice during her career and won once. If Hudson were to win after being nominated twice herself, the parallel would create a remarkable family milestone. “It would be great if it landed her way,” Russell said. “Goldie was nominated twice and won once. If that were to happen for Kate, she would have been nominated twice and won once as well.”

Beyond the awards themselves, Russell spoke proudly about Hudson’s journey as an actress. Watching her grow from childhood into a successful performer has been deeply rewarding for him and the entire family. He reflected on how special it is to see someone discover their passion at a young age and then watch that talent continue to grow over the years.

From those early days as a child, Hudson always had a sense of what she wanted to pursue. Over time, her abilities developed and expanded, eventually leading her to the point she is at today fully confident in her craft and delivering powerful performances on screen. Russell described her current role as the kind of opportunity that truly showcases her talent, praising both her performance and the film itself.

He also complimented the rest of the team behind the movie, including the cast and filmmakers, saying the project came together beautifully and is genuinely enjoyable to watch. Russell even gave a nod to fellow actor Hugh Jackman, who he said did a fantastic job in the film.

Despite the excitement surrounding awards season, Russell also took a moment to reflect on a much earlier chapter of his life when he first met Goldie Hawn. The memory dates all the way back to the late 1960s.

“It was around 1966 or 1967,” Russell recalled. At the time, his mother was a professional dancer, and he was working on a film set. One day, while he was in a small schoolhouse building used during production, he noticed his mother walking by with a group of dancers who were heading to an audition.

His mother told him the dancers were auditioning on Stage 4 and asked if he wanted to watch. Sixteen-year-old Russell decided to tag along.

While observing the dancers rehearse with the choreographer, one performer stood out a young woman with what he described as a “funny blonde haircut.” After watching for a few minutes, Russell’s mother leaned over and predicted that the dancer would get the job.

She was right. That dancer turned out to be Goldie Hawn.

Looking back, the moment feels like a small but meaningful piece of Hollywood history. Decades later, Russell and Hawn remain one of the entertainment industry’s most beloved couples. Now, as they prepare to support Kate Hudson on one of Hollywood’s biggest nights, the family may be celebrating yet another unforgettable milestone together.
