Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are bringing the beloved Owens sisters back to the big screen in Practical Magic 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 1998 cult classic. And while we’re counting down to the film’s release, fashion lovers just got an unexpected preview of what designer Pieter Mulier has in store for his new chapter at Versace.
Nicole Kidman became the first to unveil a look from his Atelier Versace, and naturally, she did it in spectacular fashion.
For the Los Angeles premiere on Monday, Nicole stepped onto the red carpet in a breathtaking custom black Versace gown crafted entirely from intricate hand-intarsia lace. The asymmetrical silhouette featured a deep, rounded neckline delicately finished with black satin ribbon, creating an elegant balance between romance and a little dark glamour.
And that lace choker? Absolutely essential. It gave the look a distinctly gothic, slightly mysterious edge that felt perfectly suited to the Practical Magic universe without becoming too literal.
The gown’s sheer lace was beautifully handled. While I’m usually a stickler for a nude lining that extends all the way to the hem, the intricate density and layering of the lace through the skirt made the shorter lining feel intentional rather than distracting. Had the lace been more delicate or sparse, that contrast could have been much more noticeable.
Then came the shoes and Manolo Blahnik’s “Milandra” pumps were perfection. Pointed, elegant and understated, they allowed the gown to remain the star of the show. Anything heavier would have competed with the delicate lace and interrupted the fluidity of the silhouette.
Finished with a soft, wavy mane and that perfectly placed choker, Nicole looked like she had stepped straight out of a darkly romantic fashion fairytale.
Honestly? If this is our first glimpse of Pieter Mulier’s Atelier Versace, I’m very much paying attention.
