Tyler Perry is bringing fans another chapter of the popular Why Did I Get Married story, and this time the cast is coming back together for a new Netflix film.
The idea for the movie came after a cast member shared a photo online. Fans quickly began asking if another film was in the works. Perry saw the response and reached out to the cast to discuss bringing everyone back for another chapter.
Janet Jackson was unable to participate because of her current Las Vegas schedule. Instead, Taraji P. Henson joins the cast as a new character, bringing a fresh dynamic to the story.
The new film also gives viewers a chance to see how Marcus and Angela have changed over the years. Their lives and family have evolved, and the story explores how those changes affect the people around them.
One of the main themes involves parents and the things they sometimes keep from their children. Perry wanted to explore how young people can create an idealized picture of their parents while not knowing what is really happening behind closed doors.
The story was inspired in part by a conversation Perry had about a young person who felt he could not measure up. That experience helped shape the message behind the film and the importance of giving young people the knowledge and tools they need as they grow.
Perry says the movie is designed to entertain while also giving viewers something to think about. Family, personal growth, communication and the choices people make throughout life are all part of the story.
During the conversation, Perry also talked about his personal views on marriage. He explained that he enjoys having his independence and does not feel that marriage is something he wants for himself.
There were also plenty of laughs during the interview, including a birthday surprise involving a caramel apple.
