An Intimate Hair Discussion With Tracee Ellis Ross In ATL

On Sunday afternoon, I was invited out to a Healthy Hair & Heat in a Culture of Texture intimate discussion with Actress/CEO & Founder of Pattern Tracee Ellis Ross and Hair Stylist Mideyah Parker moderated by Alisha Brooks, co- founder of The Black Hair Experience. The day was all about hair and how we style, wear and do OUR hair!

Tracee shared her experiences growing up and how she would maintain her curly hair. As a young girl, lots of people didn’t know how to take care of her hair and it also became challenging because she mainly grew up in Switzerland. She told the story of this one particular hairstyle that she would wear to private school. She described it looking somewhat of a pompadour hairstyle lol.

She talked about how she had to work with many hairstylist that wanted to straighten her hair and how she had to fight to keep her hair texture and maintain it’s natural setting. Most times on tv and movies sets, she would style her own hair, recently when she was on Black-ish.

Ross also shared some makeup tips her mom gave her growing up like on how to apply eyelashes and styling techniques for her hair. Her mom also did her own makeup & hair during lots of shows and concerts.

Later, I asked the question of what hair products her mom liked and how she felt about her launching a hair care line. The 50-year-old beauty said her mom, Diana Ross was very proud of her! She likes the moisturizing products. She then said she just launched The Pattern Blow Dryer thats designed for curls, coilies, and tight-textures. It was such a lovely afternoon and I want to thank Pattern for the invite out! See a few snaps inside…
