The 2025 Met Gala, held on May 5 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, embraced the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” celebrating the artistry and cultural significance of Black fashion. The dress code, “Tailored for You,” invited attendees to interpret Black dandyism and bespoke tailoring through personal and creative expressions.
Inspired by Monica Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion, the event highlighted the evolution of Black style and its role in self-expression and resistance. The accompanying exhibition featured over 250 pieces, including works by designers like Virgil Abloh, Grace Wales Bonner, Dapper Dan, and Foday Dumbuya, as well as historical artifacts and artworks illustrating the development of Black fashion from the 18th century to the present.
