ESSENCE Festival of Culture presented by Coca-Cola is stepping into a new era of style and storytelling, tapping Teyana Taylor and her visionary collective, The Aunties, as Chief Curator for the 2026 celebration, set for July 3–5 in New Orleans. The newly created role places Taylor at the helm of the festival’s creative direction, where her signature blend of bold artistry, feminine energy, and culturally rich storytelling will shape the entire experience.
An Oscar- and GRAMMY-nominated multi-hyphenate and Golden Globe winner, Taylor has long mastered the art of curating unforgettable moments rooted in Black excellence. Through The Aunties her boundary-pushing creative collective founded in 2017 she’s become known for delivering fearless, genre-bending work that honors authenticity while elevating every story it touches. Now, she’s bringing that same magic to ESSENCE, reimagining the festival from the main stage to the most intimate, soul-stirring spaces.
“ESSENCE has always been more than a festival it’s a reunion,” Taylor shared. “It’s where Black women see themselves fully in their joy, their brilliance, and their magic. I don’t take this role lightly. I’m a true Auntie the one uplifting you, keeping it real with love, and making sure you walk into every room knowing you belong.”
In her new role, Taylor will work hand-in-hand with ESSENCE’s programming, talent, and community teams to craft immersive, high-impact moments from electrifying performances to meaningful conversations and vibrant community activations. Every detail will be infused with intention, ensuring the festival not only looks incredible but feels deeply connected and culturally authentic.
Adding to her standout year, Taylor recently took the stage at the ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood Awards to present her One Battle After Another co-star Chase Infiniti with the Rising Star honor. For the occasion, she delivered a true fashion moment in a Sabina Bilenko Spring 2026 Couture gown—a sheer, nude illusion masterpiece adorned with delicate black butterfly embroidery that felt equal parts ethereal and effortlessly chic.
