My Style: Kahindo NYC Chidi Dress

Hello lovelies, can you believe that Christmas is this weekend, oh my word! I attended the 39th Annual Mayor’s Masked Ball on Saturday night and had a nice time. I have to tell you about all the drama though! As some of you all may know, my beloved Nate Hudson (who made most of my gowns for the mayor’s ball for years) passed away last year due to complications with Covid. I really was contemplating if I wanted to attend this year because I just couldn’t find anything I wanted to wear. Sometimes you just aren’t feeling anything and everything starts looking the same.

Then I got a magical message from my dear friend and fashion designer Kahindo! My girl lives in NYC and makes ethical womenswear that’s created with original prints and exuberant colors that celebrates the legacy of African fashion with a modern twist. I was super excited when she reached out to me to tell me she had a brand new collection. She wanted me to pick out a piece from the line and I jumped right to it!

Little did I know that the “Chidi” dress that I ordered was modeled on a really tall young lady lol. So I didnt quite have the right measurements, oh lawd! I was planning on wearing the dress in the spring time because it looked pretty casual to wear to a luncheon or red carpet event. When it arrived, it was floor length on me and I started to laugh lol. I don’t consider myself really short, an average height for a woman but on the model it was knee-length. Well as you can see it was sweeping the floor on me ha! I found out that the model is around 5’11” lol! So it made for the perfect dress for the mayor’s ball and everyone loved it! I got stopped a million times with admirers asking me where I purchased it. So I guess my dress was a hit and super comfortable for what I had to do.

I loved the color and style of the dress and especially the collar decal. The choice of color made the dress look rich and elegant and the zip up front design was quite different and stylish.

The Chidi dress in the gold jacquard dress is still the dress your closet needs, and this season it is updated in a beautiful royal blue color. It features front slit, collar and side pockets.

Chidi is short for Chidinma, a name for a girl that originates from the Igbo tribe in Nigeria, meaning God is good.
