On today’s episode of SHERRI, host Sherri Shepherd welcomes singer Mýa, who stops by with a major announcement. After eight years, Mýa reveals she’s releasing her 10th studio album, set to drop this spring along with a tour to match.
Mýa opens up about how the legendary Prince inspired her to go independent, explaining the pros and cons of that journey and how it ultimately gave her more creative freedom and a powerful sense of empowerment. She credits Prince for encouraging her to trust herself and “figure it out,” which changed everything for her career.
She also shares a surreal pre-show experience where there were no rehearsals and her cue cards were written in Spanish adding to the unforgettable night she won her Grammy, the same evening Lady Marmalade took home the honor and Patti LaBelle was celebrated.
When it comes to dream collaborations, Janet Jackson tops her bucket list. Mýa says she’d be open to anything singing, dancing, all of it and admits she’d be full-on fangirling every night.
Mýa also talks about the inspiration behind her new album, which is deeply rooted in her parents’ love story. Her mom, a roller skater who grew up surrounded by joy, and the memories of couples skating together influenced themes of love, balance, communication, accountability, and preserving meaningful connections.
Between new music, a tour, and a renewed creative freedom, Mýa’s next era is all about intention, joy, and honoring love past and present. See the vide clip inside…
