Have you ever heard of a Renaissance Festival? Well, my son Pootie texted me one day asking if I could help him find a plane ticket to Wisconsin because he wanted to go. I looked at my phone like, what in the world is that?! 😂 He explained that he and his childhood gaming buddies had all decided to finally meet up there.
Of course, my mom instincts immediately kicked in because let’s be real, Pootie is my baby boy. Yes, he’s 25 years old and 6’4”, but I don’t care… he’s still my baby! He’s also a total introvert and had never been on a plane alone without me or his dad, so naturally I was stressed. I even texted my daughter, who’s the adventurous traveler in the family, just to ask if this was a good idea.
The more I thought about it, though, the more I realized this could be an amazing experience for him. Pootie has been a gamer since we bought him his first PlayStation at 12 years old, and over the years, he built a whole online family with his gaming crew. Now, over a decade later, they’re still friends and this was their big chance to finally meet in person. That’s actually pretty cool when you think about it.
So after doing a little research and calming my nerves, I helped him book a round-trip ticket. And let me tell you, the smile on his face, the joy he felt being with his friends, and seeing him step into his own as a grown man traveling on his own… it was priceless. Money well spent!
I even recognized a few of the faces he’s been yelling at through his headset all these years. To finally see him this happy, surrounded by real friends who have stuck by him for so long—it made my mama heart so full. I absolutely love this for him! 💙 More inside…
