On Monday, October 27, the spotlight was on the G.R.I.T.S. (Girls Raised In The South) red carpet premiere and screening at Look Dine-In Cinemas in Brookhaven. The evening was filled with Southern charm and star power as cast members Jasmine Sargent, Ashanti Harris, and Aja “Slimeroni” Canyon made dazzling appearances alongside the show’s creator, Deji LaRay. The energy was high, the fashion was on point, and it was truly a night celebrating Southern sisterhood and storytelling.
The cast of G.R.I.T.S., an eight-episode ALLBLK series, is opening up about their heartfelt, funny, and refreshingly real show that spotlights sisterhood in the South. G.R.I.T.S. G.R.I.T.S follows Keisha, Ty and Francis, three young women from the unforgiving city of Memphis who are determined to figure out the next chapter in their lives while relishing in the world of their favorite past time, roller skating. They dream of leaving Memphis one day for the big city Hollywood life but their soul ties make leaving good ole’ soul food loving, turbulent, southernly-charming, bible-thumping Memphis damn near impossible. When all else fails, skate until you can’t skate anymore.
