Salt-N-Pepa In Fight Against Record Label For Music Rights

In an ABC News exclusive, the pioneering music group tells “Good Morning America” co-Anchor Robin Roberts why they filed a lawsuit against Universal Music Group.

Their 1986 debut album Hot, Cool & Vicious made them trailblazers in hip-hop history when it went platinum, proving women could sell big in rap. Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton met while studying nursing and working together at Sears in Queens, NY.

Their biggest hit, Push It, was originally just a B-side to the single “Tramp” until DJs started playing it nonstop. Deidra “Spinderella” Roper joined the group when she was just 16 years old after their original DJ left.
