Yara Shahidi On How Young Black Women Are Impacting Hollywood

Today on SHERRI, upcoming actress Yara Shahidi spoke about making history as the first black woman to play Tinkerbell. She also voiced her opinion on how the tide is changing with young black actresses and how soon there will be more fairies, princesses, and superheroes whom little girls can look up to! Quotes & clip below. We’d love to be considered for coverage.  See video inside…

Sherri: You are the first person of color to play Tinkerbell. It’s two things for young girls to watch …. and your good friend Halle Bailey is the first black woman to play Arielle in the Little Mermaid. So, when you guys get together do you just sit and go “OMG we’re making history?”

Yara Shahidi: It’s surreal to go on this journey with people I love so much …. I think we had a moment recently where we were on a panel together and I think with all the craziness it was one of the first times we got to sit and talk and I think what’s so cool is how obsessed we are with this idea of what we can do as two people as part of fairy tales. It’s fun to be the first and only is cool, but there is something special about being a fairy and a princess. And there’s about to be some superheroes that are about to look like us in the world. And I think that’s what makes it even more impactful.
