What I Really Thought About The Movie Black Panther

I must say that I am truly blessed! I was invited out to Los Angeles about a week ago by Disney to check out the movie premiere of Black Panther, meet and interview the cast and so much more! This movie is the most anticipated film of this year and I am so proud to be apart of it. Plus it was filmed right here in Atlanta and that makes it even more special. I saw a few buildings/streets that I recognized too.

Many family and friends were so happy to see that I got to rub elbows with these amazing actors in the film and finally today, I get to tell yah what I really thought of the film! First I want to say, there will be no spoilers but I do recommend that you take kids over 13 yrs of age. There are a few violent scenes that I wouldn’t even want my young relatives to see, other than that let’s move right on…

Storyline: I really loved the storyline about a Prince called, T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman). After his father dies, he takes over the thrown in his beautiful make believe country Wakanda. He is also challenged by an old enemy played by Michael B Jordan. I love Black Panthers spirit because he stays cool and calm throughout many challenges throughout the movie. I also really enjoyed watching how he also has the ultimate respect for his love interest Nakia played by Lupita Nyong’o. Black love is so beautiful.

Family: As they say, family comes first! T’Challa listens to his mom Ramonda played by Angela Bassett. Black Panther will go to great lengths for her approval. I love their chemistry together on and off camera.

Cinematography: When you watch this movie it makes you really believe that Wakanda is a real place! The scenery is dynamic and the colors pop on the screen. I have never been to Africa but now its definitely on my to do list. Its very inspiring to see African Kings and Queens in power.

Unity: Sometimes they say African Americans don’t stick together but not in Wakanda! The tribes will fight to the blood or even death to keep their family, history and tradition together! It makes you think how much we can learn from this movie! I thought it was a “very” strong message in the film. Let’s all do better as a race.

Favorite Character: Letitia Wright plays Shuri (T’Challa’s little sister) and you will fall in love with her character! She makes you smile everytime she appears on camera! She is a scientist/inventor and makes everything look really cool! Great for young girls to see that aspire to do the same. She is smart, funny and knows her stuff!

The Fight Scenes: Yes ladies there are a lot of shirtless fight scenes like one with Chad and Michael B. Jordan. And the women kick butt too and it made me feel proud because they were strong. In Wakanda you fight for honor. They used old traditional methods of fighting instead of guns, we need to go back to that.

The Action: I was on the edge of my seat watching the car chase scenes and more! Best action shots were when Black Panther chases a villain throughout the streets of Korea on top of a Lexus ha!

The Fashions: Costume Designer Ruth E. Carter did an amazing job of styling the cast! The gowns, African jewelry and Afrocentric hairstyles were amazing! Their clothes made you want to turn your head and to find out who they were! All the characters were dressed to the nines and everytime they entered a room, without even saying a word, you knew they were royalty from their appearance. I was very impressed with how she put the looks together and embraced African culture!

So overall, I give this movie an A+ because yes it was that good! If anything else take you family, friends, significant other hell anybody to see it because you will love it! It’s something that everyone can learn from, it will inspire you and so much more! I’m headed back to the theater with my teenage son because Black Panther really is good role model for young men to see, so that they can see how to treat women, how to be strong and cool in different situations and so much more. Till next time! xoxo

BLACK PANTHER arrives in theatres everywhere on February 16, 2018!

Marvel Studios’ BLACK PANTHER follows T’Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful old enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king—and Black Panther—is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.

  1. Thanks for the right up. I haven’t read the comics so while I knew it was must see, I didn’t know what the premise was. I am excited and hope to get a ticket next week.
