This story felt too special not to share. If you know me, you know I’ve been a Princess and the Frog superfan since the film’s debut in 2009. Princess Tiana holds a very special place in my heart not only because she’s elegant, ambitious, and determined, but because she made history as Disney’s first Black princess. That alone made her feel like magic. Over the years, I’ve lovingly collected anything and everything featuring Tiana. It isn’t always easy to find her represented, so when I do, I grab it immediately no hesitation, no second guessing.
Yesterday here in Atlanta, I attended the annual gift show at AmericasMart, something I’ve been going to for over a decade. It’s one of my favorite traditions a space filled with creativity, inspiration, and a sneak peek into what’s headed to stores next. While making my way through the show to visit a dear friend’s showroom, I spotted a sign that made my heart skip a beat: Artisan Jim Shore Signing Event.
Cue instant fan-girl mode.
I have adored Jim Shore’s work for years. His artistry has a way of turning nostalgia into something tangible, something you can hold onto. Seeing that he was in town felt surreal. When I casually asked a sales rep what time his signing would be the next day, she smiled and said, “He’s actually here now he’s in the back.” I almost didn’t believe her.
I waited patiently, heart racing, simply hoping for the chance to tell him how much his work meant to me. And then, just like that, he walked out. There he was the artist whose creations have brought me joy for years standing right in front of me. I greeted him with the biggest hug and told him how his Disney pieces, especially Princess Tiana, have always made me smile. I shared how beautifully he captures her grace and spirit, and how seen his art made me feel.
He was everything you’d hope for kind, warm, humble, and genuinely passionate. He shared stories of his beginnings, creating alongside his wife, and how his artistic journey unfolded. Listening to him speak about his process and purpose was incredibly inspiring. It reminded me that the most magical stories often begin quietly, with faith, love, and persistence.
What makes this moment even sweeter is that I often send my fiancé links to Princess Tiana figurines I admire many of them crafted by Jim Shore because he loves surprising me with them from time to time. To now realize I met the very artist behind those cherished pieces feels full circle in the most beautiful way.
Meeting Jim Shore wasn’t just a fan moment it was a reminder that art connects us, representation matters, and magic still exists when you least expect it. It was truly an honor, and an experience I will carry with me forever.

Omg, what a special, magical moment!!! I love this!!! I’d have been equally smitten.. I love his art work too!! What a cool opportunity! Reminds me of when I attended TTPM event in NYC (the big toy event), and I got to meet the creator of Hello Kitty. She had flown all the way in from Japan and didn’t speak any English at all (she had an interpreter with her), but I was just so happy and gushing about how much I loved Hello Kitty and what HK meant to me (LOL). It was a special moment, and I think she understood how special meeting her was for me. (Either that, or she thought I was just an off-my-rocker weird American lady – cuz I was the only ADULT un-accompanied by a child in her meet-and-greet line, LMAO). But anyhoo, I’m very happy for you, and I get it! Xo
He was the nicest guy ever! I’m so glad I got to meet him! I love Hello Kitty too, so cute! My good friend loves her too, wait is it a boy or girl lol!
LOL, Hello Kitty is a girl, but there’s also her boyfriend, Dear Daniel. 🙂
Ok, thanks for sharing!
