Cameron Diaz Made a Little Girl Cry After Finding Out She Voices Princess Fiona in Shrek

Actress Cameron Diaz stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon while in New York filming a new project, joking with Fallon about the city’s unpredictable weather. Diaz laughed that the sudden shift from freezing temperatures to warm sunshine felt almost “aggressive,” admitting she never quite knows what to wear this time of year.

Despite being a California native, Diaz surprised Fallon by revealing that her ideal temperature is actually between 30 and 40 degrees. She joked that experiencing real seasons feels almost spiritual for her, describing it as a cycle of “death and rebirth.”

During the interview, Diaz shared that she’s currently filming a new movie with comedian and filmmaker Stephen Merchant, though she admitted the project’s title hasn’t even been finalized yet.

The actress also reflected on her recent return to acting after taking time away from Hollywood. Her comeback film, “Back in Action,” became one of Netflix’s biggest movies of the year, marking a major return for the beloved star.

Fans of the Shrek franchise were thrilled when Diaz confirmed that she will be reprising her role as Fiona in the upcoming fifth “Shrek” film. Fallon quickly corrected himself during the interview, reminding the audience that Fiona is no longer a princess she’s officially Queen Fiona now.

Diaz shared a funny story about parents recognizing her voice from the animated films and pointing her out to their children. She recalled one moment when a young girl burst into tears after being told she was the voice of Fiona. Diaz said she now advises parents not to reveal the secret too soon, comparing it to spoiling the magic of Santa Claus.

While Diaz has starred in everything from romantic comedies to animated blockbusters and dramatic films, she revealed there’s still one dream project she’d love to tackle someday: joining the cast of “Saturday Night Live” for an entire season. She explained that while she has hosted the show before, she thinks being a full cast member for a season would be incredibly fun.

Fallon also congratulated Diaz on the continued success of her organic wine brand Avaline, which recently celebrated its fifth anniversary. Diaz explained that winemaking has become a fascinating passion for her, describing it as both a science and an art that relies heavily on chemistry.

The conversation then shifted to her upcoming dark comedy “Outcome,” directed and co-written by Jonah Hill. In the film, Keanu Reeves plays a movie star named Reef Hawk whose life is thrown into chaos after receiving a career-altering phone call. Diaz stars alongside Matt Bomer as one of his longtime friends who has known him since before his rise to fame.

Interestingly, the characters are loosely inspired by Jonah Hill’s real-life friendships. Diaz joked that her character is essentially based on one of Hill’s actual friends.

The film also marks a reunion between Diaz and Reeves, who first worked together nearly 30 years ago in the 1996 film “Feeling Minnesota.” Diaz said she was extremely nervous to see Reeves again, worried he might remember how inexperienced she was back then, but she was relieved to find that he’s still the same kind and easygoing person she remembered.

“Outcome” premieres on Apple TV+ on April 10.
