The American Ballet Theatre hosted its enchanting Fall Gala: A Celebration Honoring Misty Copeland, a spectacular evening marking ABT’s 85th anniversary season and paying tribute to one of the most iconic figures in dance. Misty herself curated the special one-night-only program, which beautifully honored her extraordinary legacy.
Through an inspiring blend of dance and film, the evening traced Misty’s remarkable journey from her early inspirations and groundbreaking performances to her historic rise as Principal Dancer, and her lasting influence as a cultural icon, advocate, and mentor to the next generation. Her story was seamlessly woven into the grand tapestry of ABT’s history, celebrating both the company’s rich past and its forward-looking future.
I’ll never forget meeting Misty Copeland during a Disney press junket for The Nutcracker and the Four Realms she was as lovely and graceful in person as she is on stage, with a presence that radiates pure elegance. I even remember dashing out soon after to find her Barbie by Mattel, a keepsake of her trailblazing impact.
For the gala’s red carpet, Misty looked every bit the modern-day princess, wearing a breathtaking corseted tulle gown straight off the Spring 2026 runway. Her look was timeless, ethereal, and utterly regal a perfect reflection of her artistry and poise. Congratulations, Misty a truly unforgettable farewell and a legacy that will forever dance on!
