Feel Good Friday: Praying For Texas

I woke up early this morning feeling very grateful. I pray for all the people in Texas. I have a family and a friend that lives there and they both told me that they were doing ok and that the power came back on a few hours ago. Thank goodness for that. We take so many things for granted and I just pray daily for so many things and give thanks to the most highest power. I’m originally from Cleveland, Ohio and it reminded me of when I was in high school back in 1983 and found out some startling news about my mom.

It affected and changed my whole life! The next two years that followed were extremely hard for me. It resulted in me and my sister living in an abandoned house. We became squatters. We survived two winters in below zero frigid temperatures and it was NOT fun. We survived by piling up blankets and sleeping together, using the little resources we had and eating at friend’s houses.

I will never forget that experience and I would often talk about it when I would speak at women’s homeless shelters or talking to the youth at schools. When I share my story, people are always shocked to learn about my past because they think wow, you don’t look like you went through any of that. Never judge a book by it’s cover.  Also, never take anything for granted in life and help someone in need if you can.

NEVER make fun of anyones bad situation because you just never know what someone is going through. Plus it could happen to you. I don’t care what economical class you come from, Texas is a prime example how you can be living a certain way one day, then it can all be taken away just like that! It’s Feel Good Friday and I say, do a good deed today or donate and try to do a random act of kindness. You just never know how you could bless someone and put a smile on their face. Peace and Blessings!
