On today’s “Tamron Hall,” actress Halle Bailey joined the show to discuss her history-making role as Ariel in “The Little Mermaid.” Halle was able to meet a group of young fans, who were treated to a special screening of the movie ahead of its premiere later this month, and also received a surprise message from her sister Chlöe, which brought her to tears. Chloe Bailey’s surprise message for Halle:

“Surprise! It’s me! Yup, I didn’t tell you. Halle, I love you so much and I am just so incredibly proud of you. I am the proudest sister in the entire world. Thank you for inspiring me. Thank you for inspiring all of the beautiful young boys and girls out there who will now see you on that screen and know that they can be anything they want to in the world. It doesn’t matter what anybody tells them. I’m so proud of you. I’m so happy the world gets to see your light, something that I’ve always seen since we were little girls, and just enjoy it. I love you.”

Halle Bailey shares what it was like auditioning for the role of Ariel in “The Little Mermaid”:

“Yes, I was so nervous. I was like, ‘Oh my goodness, God, please just help me.’ And I walked in there and I was so pleased when I met Rob Marshall because he’s so kind and he just was warm and I felt like, ‘Okay.’ And then they gave me the option to, ‘You can start with whatever, you can sing first, you can act first’ and so singing is my comfort zone, so I was like, ‘I’m going to just sing first so I can close my eyes and get out all my nerves.’ And I remember I closed my eyes and I just belted out my heart and then I opened my eyes and everybody’s crying.”
