My Experience At My First Black Rodeo In Phoenix, Arizona!

You ever heard that saying, “it’s not my first rodeo”, well it was for me lol! I must admit that Nissan rolled out the red carpet for me as I made my way to Phoenix, Arizona for the very first time. I had never been to Phoenix, Arizona and was extremely excited to get an invite from Nissan asking me if I would like to attend a black rodeo. They were a key sponsor for the event and I was intrigued and happily accepted the invitation! More inside…

I did a quick research to see what it was all about and learned so much! I have heard of rodeos yes, have I ever been to one… no. It just wasn’t on my radar but living here in the south, it is a thing. I just never participated.

Black Rodeo USA has been around since 2011. It’s one of the most popular African American cultural and education events in Arizona. It has attracted tons of rodeo fans over the years. It also can be seen across several states and the word is spreading fast.

Once I arrived, I met up with my longtime friend Krystle, who’s a meteorologist for 12 News. She showed me around the city and I was very impressed, it was extremely hot though lol. Later, I got situated at my beautiful hotel which was the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa and then got ready for a welcome dinner at Mastro’s Ocean Club. The food was delicious and I really liked the ambiance. After that, we boot-scooted over to American Legion Post 65 for some drinks, line dancing and mingling with the locals.

All the gang!

The next day we were off for lunch at a black-owned restaurant called, Chic Chef Cafe owned by Chef Nik. The food was amazing and her place is adorable, you will love it and if you’re ever in the city, you have to try it! Then we we stopped by Straw and Wool Hat Store another African American establishment where we all got to pick out fun cowboy hats. I fell in love with my cowboy hat of choice and wore it the entire trip lol. I am totally obsessed with cowboy gear now, it’s a thing now!

We rested up then we were off to the rodeo that is held at West World of Scottsdale Equestrian Center in Scottsdale, Arizona. There we were greeted, taken backstage to meet some of the staff, cowboys and cowgirls and vendors. We even got to ride in the new Nissan Frontier where we were all introduced as official brand ambassadors, so cool!

I must say, the actual rodeo was so much fun to watch! To see the sportsmanship in front of your face is something to see! I’ve seen a rodeo show from movies and on tv here and there but to watch it in person, is something else! I got to meet so many people and learn so much and I want to thank Nissan for the experience! I told all my friends about it and my followers and so many were engaged and excited that I was there! Shout out also to Jocelyn from The Allen Lewis Agency for executing such a lovely event, it was extremely well thought out and memorable in deed! Till next time xoxo
