My Imperfections And How It Relates To The Film, UglyDolls

Have you guys seen the trailer for the upcoming film UglyDolls? Do you plan on going to see it with your kids? Well, after I read the title, I got to wondering why they named the movie that and did a bit of research. It’s about a doll named, “Moxy” (voiced by singer, Kelly Clarkson). She’s from a small town in Uglyville where if you are weird or different looking, you’re accepted. She one day starts to think about what is on the other side of the mountain and ventures off to explore with her friends. On the other side, she discovers Perfection, a town where everyone looks pretty much amazing. Moxy and her friends start to feel insecure and are not treated as nicely because of their appearance. They face many challenges, differences and more.

I too have dealt with many imperfections in my own life. When I was a baby, I was a thumb-sucker and didn’t stop sucking my thumb till I was in my mid 20’s. Yes, you read that correctly lol. I dated and everything and would suck my thumb in front of my boyfriends constantly. I did not care one bit. I had a HUGE overbite and would get teased constantly by my family and friends.

It was a habit that I couldn’t break at the time and unfortunately it didn’t help my protruding teeth. My mom refused to get me braces because I wouldn’t stop sucking my thumb, so as a result of that, I was left with buck teeth. Over the years I learned to deal with it but it was extremely stressful for me and I would often cover my mouth or hide my smile. Then one day I just got over it and tried to just live a normal life and come out of my insecurities about it.

Little did I know that earlier this year, I would have a freak accident and fall and knock my front two teeth out! Yes at 50 yrs old, I was snaggletooth and was forced to wear braces after having extensive dental work. I don’t know if this was a blessing in disguise or what but I finally got the braces that I wanted! I never did think I would get them in that way though.

We all have flaws, it’s just how you learn to deal with them. At the age I’m at now, I hardly let anything get to me and it is, what it is. You either deal with me or you don’t. Love me for who I am and embrace my overbite that I think adds character lol. I have learned to embrace and LOVE me for me. Till next time! xoxo

About UglyDolls:

In the adorably different town of Uglyville, weird is celebrated, strange is special and beauty is embraced as more than simply meets the eye. Moxy (Kelly Clarkson) loves her square-peg life in this round-hole town, but her curiosity about all things leads her to wonder if there’s something – anything – on the other side of the mountain which nestles Uglyville. Moxy gathers a group of her closest friends and sets off to find what’s on the other side. They discover another world – Perfection – a town where more conventional dolls are trained in protocols before they graduate and are sent to the “real” world to find the love of a child.

In Perfection, Moxy and her crew are subject to the manipulations of Lou (Nick Jonas), the perfect doll in charge of training recruits. Here, the UglyDolls will confront what it means to be different, struggle with their desire to be loved, and ultimately discover that you don’t have to be perfect to be amazing because who you truly are is what matters most.

UGLYDOLLS releases in theaters on May 3.
