Actor Regé-Jean Page stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon for a lively and charming interview, where Fallon jokingly kicked things off by calling it a “very good-looking show,” thanks to both Page and the enthusiastic audience.
Page quickly jumped into talking about his upcoming projects, including his return to the theater stage in London’s West End for a production of “The Great Gatsby.” The actor shared that he has always loved performing live because theater brings a sense of unpredictability and adrenaline that you simply can’t replicate on screen.
Reflecting on his early career, Page recalled one of his first theater jobs at the legendary Globe Theatre in London, performing in Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice. He hilariously recounted a moment when his only job in the scene was to deliver an important letter only to realize halfway through his exit that he had forgotten it backstage. To make matters worse, the actor waiting for the letter didn’t know his lines because they were written in the note.
Thinking quickly, Page said the two of them had to improvise in Shakespearean language, awkwardly dancing around the missing prop until someone offstage finally delivered the letter mid-scene.
Despite the chaos, Page said moments like that are exactly why he loves live theater. Those unpredictable situations create real chemistry between performers and often lead to unforgettable experiences.
The actor also talked about appearing on “SNL UK” alongside Tina Fey, calling the experience a dream come true. Page said working with Fey was a lifelong highlight and reminded him of his previous time hosting Saturday Night Live in the U.S. during the pandemic, when he was especially grateful to perform in front of a live audience again.
Fallon then turned the conversation to Page’s new romantic comedy “You, Me & Tuscany.” The actor described the film as a classic, feel-good rom-com that knows exactly what it is—fun, joyful, and meant to give audiences a great time at the movies.
The film stars Page alongside Halle Bailey, whom he praised as an incredible performer and one of the best singers in the world. Page joked that Bailey is like a real-life Disney princess, saying she’s so radiant that it feels like flowers bloom and birds land on her finger whenever she walks into a room.
In one memorable moment in the film, Page even has to serenade Bailey, which he admitted was a little intimidating considering her powerful voice. The scene is inspired by an Italian tradition called “La Serenata,” where a groom sings to his fiancée before their wedding in hopes of winning her heart and perhaps forgiveness for any past mistakes.
The playful interview ended with Fallon challenging Page to turn ordinary songs into romantic serenades. Page hilariously transformed classics like “Take Me Out to the Ball Game,” “On Top of Old Smoky,” and “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” into swoon-worthy love songs, earning plenty of laughs and cheers from the audience.
“You, Me & Tuscany” hits theaters April 10.
