Shakira Celebrates 20 Years of ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ with Electrifying Performance

Musical guest Shakira performs “Hips Don’t Lie” featuring Wyclef Jean for The Tonight Show in celebration of the song’s 20th anniversary.

Shakira released “Hips Don’t Lie” on February 28, 2006. The song features rapper Wyclef Jean and became one of her biggest global hits, topping the charts in over 55 countries. It was part of the reissue of her album Oral Fixation Vol. 2 and helped cement her status as a global pop superstar.

To honor her Lebanese roots, Shakira’s grandmother taught her the art of Arabian belly dancing. This skill became a signature element of her performances, captivating audiences worldwide.

Shakira penned her first song, “Tus Gafas Oscuras” (“Your Dark Glasses”), when she was just eight years old. By 13, she had signed her first record deal, marking the beginning of her remarkable music career.
