Teyana Taylor Proves She’s in Her Era With Confident Hosting Turn

Teyana Taylor made her hosting debut on January 24, bringing her signature charisma, versatility, and fearless creativity to the stage. Fresh off major awards recognition including Golden Globe, Critics Choice, and Actors Guild Award nominations for One Battle After Another, along with a Grammy nomination for her album Escape Room the newly Oscar-nominated multi-hyphenate proved she’s firmly in her moment.

While not every sketch gave Taylor the material worthy of her full range, her infectious energy, confidence, and willingness to fully commit elevated even the weaker moments. A true scene-stealer by nature, Taylor’s background is as eclectic as her career: she first appeared on MTV’s My Super Sweet Sixteen, went on to win The Masked Singer, and is currently enrolled in culinary school because, of course she is.

One of the night’s sweetest moments came when the cameras cut to her children cheering her on from the audience. Taylor later joked about spotting them during her Golden Globe win—only to find them proudly scrolling their phones. Relatable mom humor at its finest.

Musically, Taylor shined. She showcased her R&B roots during a standout musical sketch set at New York International Airport amid a massive winter storm. Playing airline staffer “Shrimp & Grits” alongside Kenan Thompson, she helped deliver flight-delay updates entirely through song a clever nod to her Grammy-nominated music career. Another memorable moment saw Taylor hilariously transform into an 87-year-old bald man tearing up the dance floor to Earth, Wind & Fire at his grandson’s wedding, proving once again she’s game for anything.

The episode also leaned into sharp social satire. In a sketch featuring out-of-touch liberal commentators reacting to federal officers patrolling Minnesota streets, Taylor and Kenan Thompson served as skeptical talking heads, offering knowing groans and side-eyes. The sketch echoed the spirit of Dave Chappelle’s iconic post-2016 election commentary challenging well-meaning but clueless rhetoric through a sharp Black perspective.

Beyond the comedy, Taylor’s fashion moments were a standout all their own. From polished wardrobe changes to effortlessly cool ensembles, her style throughout the night was cute, confident, and undeniably her. Watching her command the stage—while balancing motherhood, music, acting, and more felt like a celebration of a woman who continues to evolve, take risks, and thrive.

All in all, Teyana Taylor delivered a fun, stylish, and memorable hosting turn another impressive chapter in a career that just keeps getting better. Keep shining. See more inside…
