Things go off the rails when Regina Hall asks Jimmy if he would give up sex, love, or money

Actress Regina Hall recently stopped by to chat about celebrating an Oscar-winning film, reuniting with the iconic Wayans family for a new installment of Scary Movie, and the unforgettable audition that launched one of her most beloved roles.

Regina reflected on the success of One Battle After Another, which went on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. The victory made this year’s Oscars especially memorable, as she found herself back at Hollywood’s biggest night after previously co-hosting the ceremony alongside fellow comedians Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes. Following the awards show, Regina attended the star-studded Vanity Fair after-party, where she celebrated the film’s success and caught up with some of the industry’s biggest names.

The conversation then turned to the highly anticipated return of the Scary Movie franchise. Regina shared how excited she was to reunite with the Wayans brothers and many of the original cast members, noting that it felt like the perfect time to bring laughter back to movie theaters.

“I love that the Wayans got their franchise back,” she said. “It felt like a good time for comedy and for people to laugh together again.”

While joking that the paycheck certainly didn’t hurt, Regina admitted the real draw was reconnecting with the cast and revisiting a project that has remained a fan favorite for more than two decades.

Looking back on the original Scary Movie, Regina recalled auditioning multiple times in front of filmmaker and comedy legend Keenen Ivory Wayans. At the time, she was already a huge admirer of his work on classics like I’m Gonna Git You Sucka, Hollywood Shuffle, and In Living Color.

“I didn’t even know if I was going to get the role,” Regina admitted. “I had been rejected for so many jobs that I thought, ‘Well, at least I get the chance to audition for Keenen.'”

More than anything, she simply wanted to make him laugh and she did. That audition ultimately led to her iconic portrayal of Brenda Meeks, a character that became one of the most memorable parts of the franchise.

More than 25 years later, Regina is still balancing acclaimed dramatic performances with laugh-out-loud comedy, proving why she remains one of Hollywood’s most versatile and beloved stars.
