Costume Designer Amit Gajwani Talks Iconic Fashion For The Movie ‘The Perfect Find’

I just finished watching Netflix’s The Perfect Find starring Gabrielle Union and Keith Powers. I really liked it a lot, its so funny! I’m a sucker for a great love story too! The movie had a lot of twists and turns plus a surprise ending but it was cute and I could relate to Gabby’s character Jenna Jones, the protagonist!

What really caught my attention was the vibrant set design in many scenes and the costume designs! I love fashion as we all know but this film paid great attention to detail and each characters individual and unique style.  They had a variety of looks for all ages, genres and for some reason, it was giving me a late 80’s vibe.

I got a chance to read an interview with costume designer Amit Gajwani for Tudum. She talked about the characters of Gabrielle Union and Gina Torres and how she created their looks. She said that these two characters are polar opposites. Their clothes do all the talking for them. Gajwani wanted to have both ladies take fashion risks and to see Gabrielle in a color palette that she hadn’t seen her in before.

For Torres character, she wanted her to be the ideal New York fashion woman who’s bold and unapologetic. See some of the favorite looks inside and don’t forget to check out the movie that’s streaming on Netflix now!

“The jumpsuit is by Philosophy and the chain mail headwear is by Paco Rabanne. We get a sense that Darcy is a powerful woman who loves to experiment with fashion and is not afraid of it.”

Gabby wearing a silver metallic dress by Galvan London. The intention was to keep Jenna chic and sexy without being overt about it. She wanted Eric to feel like he found his jewel at the party.

“This dress shows Darcy’s vulnerability. She’s wrapped up so many emotions inside of her.”

“The dress is by Attico. The color was very important with this outfit. She was connecting with her friends, and I wanted to use something brighter and vivid. It’s a very happy and fun moment between the friends, and I wanted Jenna to shine.”

After a high-profile firing, Jenna’s (Gabrielle Union) fashion career comeback hits a snag when she falls for a charming, much younger coworker (Keith Powers) who happens to be her boss’s son. As sparks fly, Jenna must decide if she’ll risk it all on a secret romance.
