Niecy Nash-Betts on BFF Colman Domingo, Going to Taylor Swift’s Wedding & Fake Butt on Reno 911

Niecy Nash-Betts joined guest host Colman Domingo on Jimmy Kimmel Live! for a warm, laugh-filled conversation about their longtime friendship, her Emmy-nominated Hulu series All’s Fair, attending Taylor Swift’s wedding, her real-life detective skills, and the surprising story behind landing Reno 911!

Domingo introduced Nash-Betts as not only an Emmy-winning actress but also one of his closest friends. The pair reminisced about first meeting on the set of Ava DuVernay’s Selma. Although they shared only one scene together, their bond formed instantly, leading to road trips across the South with castmates Tessa Thompson and Omar Dorsey.

Their friendship has only grown stronger over the years, with Domingo even officiating Nash-Betts’ wedding to wife Jessica Betts.

Nash-Betts shared the unforgettable story of her proposal, revealing that after Domingo left her home during a July 2020 gathering, she and Betts found themselves in the middle of an argument. In a surprising twist, Betts paused and said, “You get on my nerves, but if anybody’s going to get on my nerves, I want it to be you. Marry me.”

“I went from arguing to wearing a diamond ring,” Nash-Betts joked, adding that Domingo was the very first person she called after saying yes.

The conversation then turned to one of the year’s most talked-about celebrity events—Taylor Swift’s wedding. Nash-Betts revealed she was among the guests but had to keep every detail under wraps until after the celebration. She described the wedding as beautiful, complete with games, prizes, and a phone-free policy that required guests to lock away their devices. She also shared that Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony, joking that while his outfit was surprisingly polished, “for Adam, he looked decent.”

Known for hosting unforgettable celebrations herself, Nash-Betts laughed about her love of themed parties, recalling everything from a rodeo-inspired bash featuring line dancing and a mechanical bull to a Jordan Brand-themed celebration with basketball games, Double Dutch, and sneaker giveaways.

Domingo also congratulated Nash-Betts on the success of All’s Fair, which recently earned two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Contemporary Makeup (Non-Prosthetic) and Outstanding Contemporary Hairstyling. She praised the cast, including Naomi Watts, Kim Kardashian, and Glenn Close, saying the women have become much more than coworkers.

“We really take care of each other,” she shared. “It’s one of the most fun jobs I’ve ever had.”

Playing a detective on the Hulu series seems to suit Nash-Betts perfectly. She admitted she’s just as much of a sleuth in real life, revealing that she once became convinced someone she knew had committed a crime. After gathering evidence with friend Sherri Shepherd, she actually called the police.

“We got evidence, we got witnesses we had it all,” she laughed.

Nash-Betts also believes she’s exceptionally good at spotting liars but said she’ll never reveal her secret, joking that years of raising three children sharpened her instincts.

The interview also revisited one of her most beloved roles on Reno 911!, where she revealed that her famously curvy figure wasn’t entirely natural. Nash-Betts wore a custom-made prosthetic to portray Deputy Raineesha Williams, explaining it was her way of honoring the women in her own family whose body types were rarely represented on television at the time.

She also shared that she landed the role by bluffing her way through the audition. When producers asked whether she had experience with sketch comedy and improv, she confidently said yes—even though she had no idea what she was doing. Afterward, she immediately called a friend for advice before walking into the audition and trusting her natural comedic instincts.

Looking back, Nash-Betts said believing in herself made all the difference, proving that confidence and authenticity can sometimes open doors before experience does.

All’s Fair is now streaming on Hulu, with Season 2 arriving this fall.
